Are you suffering from depression or anxiety? Depression and anxiety tend to be the most common conditions that go along with managing a chronic health problem. Working with me you’ll learn ways that you can actively change and improve your mood.
One of the biggest keys to changing anything is to first understand it.
Pain is shaping your thoughts, your emotions, how your body is feeling, and ultimately your behavior. I call it the “pain spin cycle” because it feels like you are being taken on a ride that’s out of control and really unpleasant.
This spin cycle often leads to depression and anxiety.
If you don’t understand how your thoughts, emotions and behaviors work together, then it is very hard to improve your mood and reduce your pain levels.
I can help you understand the negative pain spin cycle and what you can do to break it.
You may have thoughts like “I’ll never be able to control my pain” or “I’ll never get better”. Those kind of negative pain thoughts are very common. The problem is that those kind of negative thoughts really impact your emotions and in turn, create more pain in your body. It’s a reinforcing cycle that can just keep spiraling out of control, leading to a worsening mood.
What can you do to change it?
As I always say in order to change it, you first need to understand it. We will start together by building a personal picture of what this pain spin cycle looks like for you. Once we both have a clear picture, then I will teach you specific ways to:
- Identify behavior/habits that are keeping the pain cycle going and help you replace those habits with healthier ones.
- Recognize when the thoughts you have are being distorted and high jacked by pain.
- Use meditation and mindfulness tools that allow you to decide what thoughts you do and don’t want to act on.
- Step-by-step help in identifying emotional triggers that worsen your responses to pain
- Strategies to improve your depression and anxiety
